Speaking of names

This was taken when the little one was 14 weeks old. I like this picture a whole lot. Steph and I are not totally set, but we think that Bobo's real name is going to be River. The meanings behind the name are numerous, but predominantly rooted in our (Steph and myself) shared experience of God's interaction with us: Gentle, strong, subtle, piercing, ever-changing, always-the-same, graceful, powerful. The particular image that always grabs me is that of a river as a place of peace and serenity, while at the same moment being a force that cuts through stone and is the source of life for people, plants, and animals.

name clarification

In order to clarify, and set any worried minds at ease, "Bobo" has been the pre-natal nickname of the little one. Steph made this face when she realized that people thought our first-born's given name was going to be Bobo...

Steph is just a touch over 24 weeks along right now. Bobo is scheduled to arrive on February 14th, Valentine's day. All these pictures were taken in the living room of our new home in Portland. Neither of us enjoy formal picture taking so this is probably about as close as anyone is going to get when it comes to posed shots.

The following are pictures of little Bobo taken at the anatomical ultrasound last week. Each picture has a brief textual description on the picture itself. Sometimes it takes a little imagination to make out everything that is going on inside Steph's belly, but we think our little boy is tremendously cute and that, in that cuteness, he favors his mother heavily.
